CONCEPT
“I listen and i forget I see and i understand I do and i remember” - Xunzi
The concept is based on using sustainable and long-term design thinking, the idea is to bring back the importance of the pharmacist and client relationship, for better healthcare. An integrative pharmacy looks at the physical, mental, and sometimes emotional health, and may suggest natural or lifestylebased solutions alongside medications. This concept would be aligned with biophilic and eco design and gives it’s importance back to heath, considering the working conditions of the workers, the mental and physical attachement to the place for the clients and finally the respect of nature.
The pharmacy Albiol is located in Jesús i Maria, Deltebre (Tarragona), a small rural town within a World Biosphere Reserve. The context is strongly defined by its natural landscape, community-oriented culture, and environmental awareness. The project aims to expand and renovate an existing pharmacy, integrating ecological values into a modern, efficient, and health-focused space.
PROGRAM

MATERIALITY
The pharmacy is designed using materials like cob, stabilized earthen floors, and locally sourced álamo wood.
It combines natural materials with modern systems for air purification, smart lighting, and climate control to create a holistic environment supporting physical and emotional well-being. The interior design features sculptural cob walls, shelves, and counters, finished with lime plaster for durability and hygiene, while air-purifying plants and smart lighting enhance the ambiance and comfort. The project combines traditional techniques and local resources with modern technology to create a unique and sustainable healthcare space that feels connected to its surroundings and supports both functional needs and community well-being.

Accessibility, clarity, and a welcoming atmosphere are key priorities. A dedicated space for integrative health, organized around a smart counter, provides a distinctive and highly valued feature where patients can receive advice, personalized consultations, and guidance on natural or lifestyle-based therapies. This design emphasizes both functionality and comfort, reflecting the pharmacy’s holistic and community-centered philosophy.
